Uisce: Clean Water Roadmap for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) – 2024 to 2032
Vision: By 2032, Uisce will be a leading force in providing sustainable and equitable access to clean water for millions of Congolese citizens.
Mission:
- Design, implement, and maintain clean water systems in underserved communities across the DRC.
- Foster local ownership and capacity building through community education and training programs.
- Partner with government agencies, NGOs, and private entities to maximize impact and resource efficiency.
Goals by 2032:
- Phase 1 (2024-2028):
- Establish a strong presence in 5 key provinces of the DRC.
- Implement clean water systems in 100 communities, serving at least 500,000 people.
- Develop a team of local engineers and water specialists through training programs.
- Phase 2 (2029-2032):
- Expand operations to all 26 provinces of the DRC.
- Implement clean water systems in an additional 200 communities, reaching over 10 million people.
- Establish a network of local partners to ensure long-term sustainability of water systems.
- Advocate for policy changes that prioritize clean water access at the national level.
Strategies:
- Technology: Utilize innovative and cost-effective water treatment technologies like solar-powered pumps and sand filtration systems.
- Community Engagement: Work closely with community leaders to identify water needs and ensure project buy-in.
- Capacity Building: Train local residents on system operation and maintenance to promote self-reliance.
- Sustainability: Implement water user fees and micro-financing programs to ensure long-term financial viability of projects.
- Data & Monitoring: Track water quality, system functionality, and community health outcomes to measure impact and guide future strategies.
Impact Measurement:
- Track the number of people gaining access to clean water.
- Monitor improvements in waterborne illness rates.
- Evaluate the increase in school attendance and productivity.
- Assess the economic benefits for communities, such as increased income generation for women.
Uisce’s roadmap for the DRC is ambitious yet achievable. Through a combination of innovative technologies, community collaboration, and a focus on long-term sustainability, Uisce is committed to creating a future where clean water is a right, not a privilege, for all Congolese citizens.
